I'm (Not) Alright

Grief does not have one face. It doesn’t have one age, one gender, or one singular form. I, just like the people viewed in this series, have experienced grief and loss in ways that no one can prepare any person for. My photographs break the boundaries of how grief is “supposed to look” and opens the door for others to express how they truly feel, disconnected from societal expectations.

In the images displayed, each survivor of loss is holding an item that belonged to or represents a person they lost. The items are meant to create a sense of comfort and to aid in telling the survivor’s story. The survivors are photographed in places of their choosing.
